Why Shipping Mismatches Are a Serious Issue
A shipping cost mismatch means the price shown in a Shopping ad or free listing doesn't match what the customer sees at checkout. This is a direct policy violation under GMC's misrepresentation policy and can result in product disapprovals or account suspension.
The Three Sources of Shipping Cost Conflict
GMC account settings vs checkout — Shipping rules configured in GMC don't match your store's shipping rules. This happens when one is updated and the other isn't.
Feed-level shipping attributes vs checkout — If you include shipping attributes in your product feed, these override GMC account settings. A mismatch between feed shipping and website checkout causes disapprovals.
Carrier rate table changes — Carrier rates change periodically. If you use carrier-calculated shipping, both GMC and your store checkout need to pull from the same rate table at the same time.
How to Audit for Mismatches
- •Pick 5 products across different price ranges and categories
- •Note the shipping cost shown in Shopping preview (use the Shopping tab in Google Search)
- •Add each product to your cart and proceed to checkout
- •Compare the shipping cost at checkout to what was shown in Shopping
If they differ, you have a mismatch.
Common Fix Scenarios
Scenario: You offer free shipping over $50 in your store but GMC shows flat-rate Update your GMC shipping service to include a conditional rule: flat rate below $50, free above.
Scenario: You updated checkout shipping rates but forgot to update GMC Update the GMC shipping service to match. Remember that carrier rate tables need to be updated in both places.
Scenario: Feed-level shipping attributes are wrong If products have a shipping attribute in the feed, that overrides GMC account settings. Either remove the feed attribute and let account settings apply, or correct the feed attribute.
