Google updates its Merchant Center, Shopping, Ads and channel-specific policies several times a year, usually with no merchant-facing announcement. FeedShield checks 18 official pages every day. When one changes, paid plans get an in-app alert quoting what changed.
Merchant Center policies, Shopping ads requirements, Google Ads policies, Google Business Profile & reviews, Shopify integrations, and Meta Commerce policies. Every page fetched and hashed once a day.
Each fetch is compared word by word against the last one. Google Help Center page chrome, common cookie-banner text and full dates (month, day and year) are stripped before the comparison. A month-and-year stamp like "Last updated: March 2026" is kept, so a change to it can alert. Any change left after that, even one word, alerts.
When a page clears the threshold, every user on a paid plan gets a notification naming the source and quoting the changed passage, with a link straight to the official page. You read the change yourself and decide if it applies to you.
A source that keeps re-checking clean sends nothing. A source that changes sends exactly one alert per organization in a 24-hour window, even if the refresh job runs more than once that day.
Daily at 09:00 UTC, the Policy Watch refresh job fetches each of the 18 source pages and hashes the page content.
If the hash matches the last stored snapshot for that page, nothing else happens.
A changed hash stores a new snapshot, then the page's text (Google Help Center page chrome, common cookie-banner text and full dates stripped out) is diffed word by word against the previous snapshot's text.
If the last time this page was successfully checked is more than 3 days ago, today's fetch is recorded as a new baseline with no alert. That's what keeps a multi-day outage (or a source just added) from reading as one giant policy edit.
Any word added, removed or edited, once Help Center page chrome and full dates are stripped, creates a change record and an in-app notification for every organization on the Starter, Growth or Agency plan. A word-count threshold used to gate this and got removed: it added no safety margin and hid exactly the small edits that matter on a policy page.
